Spike the Bravehearted Dragon

A children’s book about having the courage to be yourself, written and illustrated by Jump the Moon artist E. Paul Prendergast.

Meet Spike

In a world where dragons are expected to roar loud and act fierce, Spike doesn’t fit the mold. He’d rather play his accordion, help his friends, and never scare a soul. Because he’s different, the other dragons tease him, and Spike starts to wonder if anyone will ever see him for who he really is. But when it matters most, Spike discovers that real bravery doesn’t always look the way we expect, and that being true to yourself is its own kind of courage.

From the artist

Spike the Bravehearted Dragon was written and illustrated by Paul Prendergast, one of the artists at Jump the Moon. The story actually started decades ago: Paul was a boy who got teased for being different, and he and his mom created an early version of Spike’s story together to help him make sense of it. That message stuck with him his whole life.

Years later, Paul found Jump the Moon and for the first time felt confident enough to call himself an artist. That confidence is what finally brought Spike all the way to life, in words and in pictures Paul drew himself.
