How Jump the Moon began

Where it started

Years ago, as an artist, sculptor, and art teacher, our founder, Michael Bingham, saw high school students from so many different backgrounds and abilities and wondered, “how can everyone create?”

Due to physical limitations, some students weren’t able to create art using the traditional classroom tools. Instead of seeing a disability, he saw diverse-abilities in need of new tools. He had an idea to drill a hole into a toy car and fill the hole with a marker. With a push across paper, that car left trails of color behind on the canvas. It became a new tool for a student to make art.

Jump the Moon began from the idea that while a cow may not be able to jump over the moon like the nursery rhyme states, it could reach that height with some help. In 2017, Jump The Moon officially became a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization and began providing assistive art making devices, art mentorship, and creative opportunities for the community.

From the beginning, we have collaborated with other local nonprofits including, Cache County School District Special Needs program, Common Ground, Options for Independence, Stride Services, Cache Employment and Training, and more. We see ourselves as a valuable partner in helping others fulfill their mission to serve and improve the quality of life for those who live with mild to severe challenges.

While many of our efforts involve helping people with disabilities or diverse abilities create art, we also invite community members, families, clubs, and organizations to participate and volunteer. Come make new friends and overcome your own perceived limitiations as you let your inner artist out to play.

The mission of the organization seeks to bring out the creativity within everyone and demonstrates that when combined with knowledge — innovation and art happens.

Jump the Moon, located in Logan’s downtown Arts District, is more than just an art studio and gallery. It is a nonprofit for the community that was born with the vision and spirit of making art available to all. Visit us around the corner from Center Street, in Logan.
